Prof. Dr. Bruno Alberto Juan Baldis  (1937-1997)

Dead in San Juan, May 27 of 1997. Bruno was born in Buenos Aires, where he got the Geologist degree (1963) and later his Ph D in Geological Sciences (1970). He focused his research on the stratigraphy and tectonism of the Precordillera of San Juan. After the first contact with the area, he started to get involved with the region as well as with its fossiliferous fauna. He was a pioneer on the geological description of Precordillera, outlining important aspects on the origin and interpretation of this Lower Paleozoic basin. After 1976, he moved to San Juan, creating the Instituto de Geología, where he dedicated full time to teach and investigate. From the 70 "s until his death, he actively participated as co-leader in different IGCP projects focusing on the Lower Paleozoic of South America. He left more than one hundred of scientific papers internationally recognized dealing with different aspects of Lower Paleozoic geology. Aside of an important scientist, he was good friend. We dedicate this volume to the memory of Bruno.
